At the British School of Guangzhou we have a built a strong reputation for our choral programme. The school is represented by three choirs who rehearse weekly during term time.

Lower Primary Choir (Years 2 & 3)

Open to all students, the Lower Primary Choir meet weekly on Friday lunchtimes. This choir provides the foundation programme with an introduction to simple two part harmony and sight singing techniques. The choir regularly gives performances in school and in the local community. Performance highlights include the Shangri-La Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, Winter Celebration, Chinese New Year assembly, and the Primary Awards Day celebrations. The choir has around 30 fulltime members.

Upper Primary Choir (Years 4,5 & 6)

A larger choir of 55 members, the Upper Primary Choir meet weekly on Wednesday afternoons as an after school activity. The choir learns a larger breadth of repetoire over the course of the year to prepare for the various performances it undertakes. Students on this course encounter a range of singing styles and genres from folk, to classical and pop. Performance highlights include Guangzhou Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Tai Koo Hui Mall, Garden Hotel Christmas Tree Lighting and the annual ISMAG SingUp! celebration. 

Seconday Choir (Years 7 - 13)

Secondary Choir is open to all secondary pupils from years 7 - 14 who enjoy singing as part of an ensemble. Students on this course learn a wide variety of music from pop, sacred, traditional and classical music. The choir perform regularly at many school and community events including the Guangzhou Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Tai Koo Hui Mall, International Day, British Day and Performing Arts events. They have also featured on national media including Guangdong TV news.
